There are three main arteries that run through Waikiki, parallel with the Waikiki beach front.  They are:

1. Kalakaua Avenue (6-8 blocks from the beach)
2. Kuhio Avenue (5 to 6 blocks from the beach)
3. Ala Wai Boulevard (0 to 3 blocks from the beach)

Ala Wai Boulevard runs along the Ala Wai Canal which marks the northern parameter of the Waikiki district.

Ala Wai Boulevard is popular road for cyclists and runners. The Ala Wai Golf Course is situated on the far side of the canal.  The hotels and motels located near Ala Wai are generally much less expensive than those found closer to the beach.
